A gaming case decides what fits in your PC and how cool and quiet it runs. Modern graphics cards are long and hot, so the most useful case specs are the maximum GPU length, the CPU cooler height limit, radiator support and how many fans come in the box. This guide groups current cases by tier, based on list prices, across three styles: airflow towers, compact micro-ATX and Mini-ITX cases, and glass “fish tank” showcase cases.

We write from manufacturer specifications and published reviews, mainly Tom’s Hardware’s best PC cases guide (updated October 2026) and its Cooler Master Q300L V3 review, plus GamersNexus’s HAF II 500 review. We have not hands-on tested the products mentioned. Clearance figures come from the maker’s spec page and can change with fans or radiators installed. For full builds that fit, see our gaming PC builds.

How to choose a gaming case

  • Airflow first. A mesh front panel and at least two intake fans keep a modern GPU cooler. Cases with fans included save buying them separately.
  • Size. Mid-tower ATX cases fit the most parts. Micro-ATX cases are smaller and cheaper. Mini-ITX cases are the smallest but limit the board, cooler and power supply.
  • Style. Showcase cases use glass on two sides to show off the parts. They look great with RGB but can run warmer unless they have plenty of fans.

Will it fit? Case checklist

  1. GPU length. Compare the case’s maximum GPU length with the card’s length. Front radiators reduce it. Our graphics card guide lists each card’s length.
  2. CPU cooler height. Tall dual-tower air coolers are about 155 mm. Some glass cases stop at 165 mm.
  3. Radiator support and thickness. If you plan a 360 mm AIO, check the case supports it at the top or front, and check the thickness limit.
  4. Power supply length. Some compact or front-PSU cases limit PSU length. See our power supply guide.
  5. Motherboard size. ATX, micro-ATX or Mini-ITX. A smaller board fits a bigger case, not the other way round.

Budget gaming cases

Cooler Master Q300L V3. A compact micro-ATX case that Tom’s Hardware rated a strong low-cost pick. It fits GPUs up to 366 mm, air coolers up to 178 mm and a 240 mm AIO. Only one 140 mm fan is included, so plan to add intake fans.

Montech TG3. Tom’s Hardware’s best budget ATX case. It fits GPUs up to 430 mm and coolers up to 180 mm, and comes with four ARGB fans, giving a showcase look on a budget.

Phanteks XT Pro Ultra. Tom’s Hardware’s best budget airflow pick. It includes four 140 mm fans and fits GPUs up to 415 mm and air coolers up to 184 mm.

Mid-range gaming cases

Lian Li Lancool 207. Four fans included, and a power supply mounted at the front bottom, which leaves the floor free for intake fans. Tom’s Hardware lists it among its best cases. Lian Li lists room for GPUs up to 375 mm, coolers up to 180 mm and ATX power supplies up to 160 mm.

Fractal Design North. Tom’s Hardware’s best-looking case, with a wood-slat front and two 140 mm fans. It fits GPUs up to 355 mm, or 300 mm with a front 360 mm radiator.

Premium gaming cases

Cooler Master HAF II 500. Tom’s Hardware’s best mainstream airflow case, and GamersNexus called it a new best in its testing. It fits GPUs up to 430 mm and air coolers up to 220 mm.

NZXT H9 Flow (2025). Tom’s Hardware’s best large showcase case. NZXT lists GPUs up to 459 mm, air coolers up to 165 mm, and a 360 or 420 mm radiator at the top. It includes four fans.

Fractal Design Terra. Tom’s Hardware’s design pick for Mini-ITX. At 10.4 liters it still fits GPUs up to 322 mm, but it needs a Mini-ITX board, an SFX power supply and a low-profile cooler.

FAQ

Do I need to buy extra fans? Not with the Montech TG3, Phanteks XT Pro Ultra, Lancool 207 or H9 Flow, which include four each. The Q300L V3 includes one, so add at least one front intake fan.

Glass or mesh? Mesh fronts move more air. Showcase cases look better with RGB parts but need good fans to stay cool.

Is Mini-ITX harder to build in? Yes. Parts must fit tightly, and SFX power supplies and low-profile coolers cost more. Start with a mid-tower for a first build.

Verdict

For most first builds, the Phanteks XT Pro Ultra or Montech TG3 gives room and fans at a low cost. The Lancool 207 is a quiet mid-range all-rounder, and the Fractal North is the best-looking case here. For hot high-end parts, the HAF II 500 leads on airflow, while the NZXT H9 Flow is the showcase pick for liquid-cooled builds. See which cases we chose for each of our gaming PC builds.
